Gadget love

I don't know if a machine this large can still be called a gadget, but I can't think of a better way to describe it! I love a good tool!

Hey, you.

One of my kids -- a smart, funny, gentle, kind, creative guy -- has been a target for bullies since fourth grade. Different bullies, different settings. We've talked to teachers, coaches, counselors to make sure our kid is doing everything he can to avoid being the chosen one, and they all agree that there's no objective reason for him to get picked on more than any other kid...they also agree that he gets more than his fair share of bullying. Last year, one kid started calling him gay. When we were trouble shooting an effective response, I mentioned that it would be okay if he *were* gay. I didn't think he was, but I also think it needs to be said, repeatedly. "Oh, I'm not, Mom," he said. "I just hate that they think it's an insult to call me that."

This school year started with a physical assault -- the school's words, not mine. They notified the sheriff and suspended the kid. We chose not to pursue it because we didn't think it'd help. And while that kid has backed way off, others are still in the picture with their verbal claws, waiting for him to reveal his soft underbelly. Sadly, he is so used to it that it's a fact of life for him, but it breaks my heart. He is still sunshiney and light-seeking and I know he is a strong, strong kid who's going to great things, but I wish he didn't have to deal with it.

When he gets home today, I'm going to show him this.

Thank you, GMCLA for reminding me of this great song and its message of hope for all kinds of people.

Would you like a present, too?

Or maybe a mohawk? Happy Birthday, Number 3!

Packajectic!

This looks like supremely satisfying work. Look at all those drawers!
I love to hear about people who love their jobs.

Where have all the beezers gone?

Where have all the beezers gone? Are they busy beezing, with no need for a swig from the happiness tap? I say to you: beezers, happiness is a long-term investment! And surplus should be shared! If you are overwhelmed with happiness, hooray! Spread it around! If you are not, well, here's a little hug and an invitation to hang out in this happy place for a little while.

Coincidence...

So we have been having a crazy stormy summer and yesterday evening was no exception. I was kind of shocked to find my very own FULL DOUBLE RAINBOW on the precise day I posted the Yosemitebear double rainbow video here.

Rest assured, dear readers, that I did not babble, moan, sob, or take video footage. But it was still pretty nifty!

The second rainbow was just out of range of my phone's camera, so here's another view:

The top rainbow was fainter, but it did, in fact go alllll the way across the sky! The promised four pots of gold have yet to be located, but searchers haven't yet given up hope. Beezers are good that way.

Friday, July 23, 2010

Does this mean two pots of gold, or four?

So this has been everywhere already. But I'm having a stinkeroo of a morning and watching this, I can't help but smile. And laugh. And guffaw! What a nut!

Happy Feet

Happiness doesn't usually land in your lap...sometimes you have to go looking for it. Beezers numbers 1 & 3 recently took a field trip in search of a little joy.

And what better place to start than here*:

In spite of the tickle torturing pedicurist and his coworker, the Scruberator, our tootsies turned out great!

We even felt lucky to have gone before the little old lady who announced that weird stuff on her foot had been described as {shudder} fungus. We were proud of ourselves for not busting out laughing, too. Unfortunately, unlike the staff, we didn't have an Asian language at our disposal to secretly discuss the fungal dilemma. Luckily we were almost done!

Feeling a little slumpy? Treat your tootsies to some TLC, America!

*PS: Notice that Happy Nails is right next door to Happy Wok. We will have to try their happy lunch some other day.

CAKE!

The only problem with long weekends is that Tuesday morning becomes Monday morning. If ever a "Monday" morning required cake, this one does. Zero calories but still delish!

Somehow, the phrase, "Orangutan's Best Friend" doesn't quite carry the same ring...

More attitude

This video is a little long and I wish the mom would stop talking and moving the camera and adding to the video...but TIMMY IS AWESOME! And I give his parents mad props for encouraging him in his Timmy endeavors.

Also, the dad walking back and forth in his skivvies cracks me up.

There's an app for that.

There are apps for that:

Touching Sentiments

What did you do for your sweetie on Valentine's Day?

Forget crop circles! Minnesota farmer Bruce Andersland made a giant field heart out of manure for his wife Beth. They've been married 37 years. Way to think outside the box, Bruce!

Feeling Sheepish

It was hard to take the reports of a sheep running loose in the city. After all, where would a sheep hide? Art Van!

AnnArbor.com has the story here.

More photos are here.

I love a story with a happy ending!

Tumbleweeds on Tap!

Don't you love those crazy things you stumble upon while vacationing? Even better than kitschy roadstops (a personal fave) are natural phenomena!

Auto tune the news

This series has been around a little while, but it always makes me laugh. I'd start watching the news if it was performed like this every night.

Interactive Art

Wouldn't you love to have this as playhouse? Patrick Dougherty has been creating stick houses and sculptures and magical places all over the world. We were lucky to have an installation in our city a few years ago, and my kids and I spent a lot of time playing in, I mean appreciating, the art.

Here is a quick video of the installation process of one piece.
